“…I’m incredibly grateful, because I was able to accomplish even more than I set out to.”

“I started the Let Yourself Shine Program by telling Ruth I wanted to be challenged. In the past, coaches helped me work on songs, reach high notes, breathe, etc., but nobody ever demanded that I truly challenge myself. As a result, I hardly ever practiced outside of class and didn’t think much about my song choices.

Ruth was up to the task and I’m incredibly grateful, because I was able to accomplish even more than I set out to.

I signed up to grow as a singer, strengthen my voice, and because I simply love to sing and wanted to sing more. On top of doing all of that (already so much!), I reconnected to my identity as a singer, grew more confident, and started infusing that into everything I do. I now see my singing as a core part of who I am, something that adds value to my life while also bringing joy to others, that nourishes me and allows me to express who I am, giving others permission to do the same.

I loved everything about this experience. Ruth rose to the occasion, and I did too. I practiced at home and started thinking about songs based on what we agreed I should work on. I tapped into my emotions and let myself be vulnerable in front of an audience in a way I never have before. It was scary, but also beautiful and freeing, and she was with me every step of the way, I felt completely supported.

Perhaps most importantly, the program helped me remember that singing makes me happier than pretty much anything else. Every time I showed up for a lesson or listened back to the recording, I was so happy to be singing, nothing else mattered. I’m truly grateful for this experience, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
